Angry Birds On Chrome… Have You Started Playing it Yet?
I know, you’ve already played Angry Birds for free on your mobile, but some games are like favorite books and worth revisiting, right? And with games, you’re not really retreading, are you, what with all the alternative ways most let you solve a problem?
Might as well download Google Chrome and install the first batch of Angry Birds levels then (or just visit chrome.angrybirds.com, which works in most browsers), because Google and Rovio are giving their new browser-based version away free. They’ve also added a few “Chrome-inspired” levels (these work in any browser, too). I can’t tell you what they look like, because you have to beat the first batch (“Poached Eggs”) to unlock them, and…well…okay, confession: I still haven’t beat “Poached Eggs” on my iPhone. No do-overs until I have the full complement of 189 of 189 gold stars, secured without the aid of the Mighty Eagle, mind you.
[UPDATE: Looks like you don't have to beat all of "Poached Eggs" to get at those Chrome levels. They're instead unlocked by finding and hitting hidden targets in specific levels. That, and it seems the game's been cheat-hacked (chacked?) too.]
As of this post, Google’s Angry Birds app page has nearly 163,000 users, and since it just launched, over 100,000 weekly installs. It’s still technically in beta, but everything seems to function as you’d expect (you use your mouse pointer instead of your finger to sling-load and tap). Google’s already issued a version 1.01 patch declaiming “Pigs in Level 1-20 will not cause you any more problems!” Also: “More content updates and bug fixes will come soon.”
Curious things you can’t do in mobile version: load multiple instances, so the annoying theme song plays in triplicate, which makes it almost as interesting as Pomplamoose’s inspired version:
